Lovely pub with so much character. Very dog friendly with treats on the bar and water bowls. Staff are friendly and food is great.

Best steak and ale pie ever and I've had a few.. Staff were very friendly and welcoming.. The building itself was beautiful..

Found this little gem by chance, lovely ambience with a log fire, cosy armchairs and exposed beams. Don't worry if you haven't booked, there is a bar seating area as well. Prompt and friendly service, yummy food and good portions.

Good food well presented. Service was great and the venue is lovely.

Beautiful decor and pleasant atmosphere. The food is average and a bit bland. The service was very slow. This is place is probably best for a drink rather than a meal

I was in the area for the weekend and popped in for a light lunch. It was so good, we came back the next day too. It is a marvellous old building in exceptional condition, complete with dark beams, stained glass, and roaring fires. However, being so large and old, you do need a jumper inside in winter, though blankets are available for outside. The menu is diverse and caters well for gluten free and other dietary requirements. Menus available online. A really extensive range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks too. If you want a big table, it seems that booking is essential but there are smaller tables and armchairs in the bar and plenty of space in the garden weather permitting. The staff are lovely and everything is good quality but the building makes everything feel extra special.

A great restaurant. I plan to take a large group there.

Good food . Mixed pork and beef more than plenty on the plate. The child portions not much smaller than adult. Too full to have puddings but good selection. Excellent selection of ales. Better value than some in the area. Definitely will return.

Busy busy with festive lunches but we were served quickly with a smile - food was excellent. Lovely log fire. A great place.

Very nice; friendly staff, good food.

Beautiful building, traditional pub food of a high standard. Staff friendly but a bit scattered. We didn’t get great service but it was very busy.

Great food friendly and attentive staff, and fast service!

Used to visit regularly, but was aghast at the terrible food this trip. My soup was inedible as it was unbelievably salty, the beetroot houmous was horrible with nothing more than an earthy taste, no flavours at all. My companion had a steak and ale pie - no taste of steak or ale, only salt, the texture was unpleasant and the meat grisly. The staff are all very efficient and warm, it's a shame they're so let down by the kitchen.

Friendly and attentive staff, great food and atmosphere. This was our first visit and will definitely be returning soon.

Nice food and drinks. Just one ladies toilet so there can be a wait.Good carpark plus disabled spaces. Well maintained garden.

Wonderful country restaurant/pub in an "old-world" setting. The food was excellent and the service was quick and friendly. We went in for a quick lunch and were very pleased with some of the unique menu items.

Great food and local ales. Great staff also - extremely helpful when a small child in our party was stung by a bee. Offers of first aid and ice cream were appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble. Great place to visit.

Whilst the main course was quite good as a party of 7 we were not amused when 3 of us had the same pudding but received different sized portions! On pointing this out we were told it would be rectified but nothing happened.

Found this gem by chance and had one of the best pub roasts I've ever eaten, very nice staff and also dog friendly. Lovely place with a great outdoor area.

We were driving past & liked the look & feel of the pub - so glad we stoppef. The staff were welcoming & food was great, a favourable ambience, & a stunning building. We sat outside as the inside tables were all advance booked & I can understand why after eating here that this place is so busy. Outer seating was just as good & luckily it was a nice day. We live an hour & a half away , but will definitely visit again. BTW the boys loved beers & my husband praised the Guiness. Thank you.

Had an excellent meal here, in this restaurant based in a superb building. Three courses and wine. Presented very well and with excellent service. Will look forward to my next visit.

Best pub meal out I have had in a lonnnnnng time. Excellent choice of wines that aren't overpriced, some interesting dishes as well as all the pub classics, friendly staff that go out of their way for you and great atmosphere - what more could you ask for?

Great food. Great historic feel of a medieval tavern

We have been to this restaurant many years and over the years the service to be first class and the food is first rate. They not only have small tables but do cater for larger parties but I recommend you to book.
John Gomme
Excellent food served by waiters/waitresses who made us feel very special. The building has plenty of atmosphere although apparently not as old as the style might suggest. Well worth a visit!

It needs plate orders IN ADVANCE to (theoretically) present the best. -We will see.-
Chris Parker
Great local pub and eatery. Good menu, good staff and good beer. Has a great fire in winter and nice outside space in summer!

We travelled some distance for Sunday lunch, sadly wont be doing it again. Roast beef as tough as leather, potatoes which tasted like they had been reheated and very average vegetables. Staff informed and we were asked if we wanted more beef...... no not really as my husband couldnt even cut his! Such a shame as staff were pleasant and ambience good.
Trevor Ford
The food was exceptional even though they were very busy with Christmas parties. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Adrian Barry
Large group of us for a works do, good service and nice food

We were a party of seven Saturdays evening, although we enjoyed various main courses,we were surprised when three of us having chosen the same sweet were all given completely different portion sizes, although promised this would be rectified ,this was ignored,

Nice venue, big space but lots of cosy nooks that help give some privacy. Open fires are welcoming as are the staff. Service was good and the lunch menu diverse. Looked to be a nice range of beers but as was driving could only look on from over my soft drink.
Mark Williams
The refectory is your classic traditional pub food and drink Emporium. None of it is cheap but nothing is outrageously priced unlike some other local hostelries. To my mind the thing that makes the refectory stand out is the welcome you get as you come in and the willingness of staff to stop and chat. Has that certain friendly landlord feel to it.Huge car park and plenty of outdoor seating for when the sun comes out. Recommend the puddings and definitely sample a couple of beers before settling on one.
James Luckock
Great very spacious oldy world converted barn with exposed oak beams, beautifully decorated. Great selection of ales and lovely food. Excellent hospitality. Dog friendly. Love this place.
Stephanie Lucas
One of my favourite places in the area! Great food and atmosphere- best Sunday roast ever!!

Nice pub and restaurant, dog friendly. Beautiful wooden beans and large fireplace. The outside is great in the summer, inside could do with some comfier chairs, armchairs and sofas to modernise a bit as all rather wooden! Great place for dinner and / or drinks.
Fred Flintstone
Lovely country pub, set in a lovely part of Surrey. Great Food, wine, beer and Cider.Lovely garden area with plenty of alfresco dining. Staff are very friendly and courteous.

Amazing food, lovely atmosphere! Big portion and quality meat
Russ Wyld
Can't fault the place; well priced super tasty food in a lovely old building served by polite and efficient / friendly staff. The choice of well kept ales are a delight too.
Paul Brown
Eclectic pub restaurant with fascinating old world decor very much worth a visit or two. The menu looked familiar like a chain group but better class than some. I enjoyed the real ale served in prime condition and in such a visually compelling area. The staff were genuine and pleasant I will definitely be back when I am in the area. The food was good at a reasonable price.
